I am desperately looking for a software program that will allow me to scan items via a barcode scanner and let me keep a running inventory of what I have in my pantry as well as allowing me to scan the items that I throw out, so that I will have a list to print when I to to the grocery.
I'd also REALLY (really the most important) want it to have the ability to search it's database of recipes (also allows me to input my own) knowing what I have in my pantry and showing the recipes I could make.
I have a recipe program called BigOven that has many of these features, except for the barcode scanning part. It allows me to select the items I have and then finds recipes I could make with it.
So far I have found a few programs (links aren't included because I haven't tried them yet)
1. GroceryIP - looks promising, but it was released in 2003 and it doesn't look like the original company still exists - $30 - $35
2. Now You're Cooking - I don't think it has a barcode lookup - website is a bit weird...makes me wonder - $25
3. Diet Pro - also looks promising & is the most expensive ~$65
